Abstract
The Templeton Diner in Vancouver’s downtown immerses patrons in an environment of post-war nostalgia. Complete with a long counter, bar stools, separate booths, old coffee and milk-shake machines, a jukebox and an open kitchen, the diner is the place to go for a pleasant experience of the atmosphere of the past. Filled with vintage features, the diner theatrically evokes the late forties and early fifties in the present, while its costumed cook and servers entertain with a performance of culinary skill, service and iconic resemblances to the post-war days. Their audience — the customers — gleefully consume samplings of the past, all the while remaining securely in the present.
