“Hedda Gabler Remains a Question Mark”: A Conversation with Judith Thompson

Abstract
On 30 June 2006, during the Ibsen Centenary Year, and again on 20 February 2007, I spoke with Canadian playwright Judith Thompson about Henrik Ibsen’s feminist—modernist classic Hedda Gabler (1890), which Thompson first adapted and directed for the Shaw Festival in 1991 and then revisited in 200S for a Volcano production in Toronto. She is currently preparing a third version of the adaptation for an upcoming production by the Pittsburgh Irish and Classical Theatre in June 2007. The following is an abridged and edited transcription of our conversations about the play.
