Abstract
Having marked its twenty-fifth anniversary during the 2007/8 season, Toronto-based Native Earth Performing Arts (NEPA) continues to operate as Canada’s oldest Aboriginal theatre company. NEPA has been active as a creative collective in the Toronto theatre scene since the early eighties and formally became a theatre company in 1982. Then, with its production of Tomson Highway’s The Rez Sisters in 1986, NEPA expanded into a fully professional theatre company, producing works by prominent and emerging Aboriginal artists and giving Aboriginal and Indigenous voices, which historically have been silenced or under-represented, opportunities to speak.
