Abstract
On the night of December 2, 1984, Union Carbide’s pesticide plant in Bhopal, India exploded, engulfing large parts of the city in a deadly poisonous gas, Methyl Iso Cynide (MIC). Men, women and children died by the thousands. By morning the death toll was four hundred, by sunset twenty-five hundred, and by the following day numbers had no meaning. Bhopal had become the world’s largest peacetime gas chamber. More than twenty-thousand people have died to date and the figure is still rising. Clear evidence linking Warren Anderson, the CEO of the now-defunct Union Carbide, to the Bhopal disaster has been disclosed and affirmed in a court of law (Sarangi); yet Anderson still has not been tried and is enjoying life as a free man in the United States.
