Abstract
The journey to the Edmonton Fringe begins the previous fall, when theatre artists start filling in forms and coming up with the $535 entry fee. The first twenty-five individuals in the Line-Up method get in, as do lucky participants in the local and international Lotteries. By the middle of November, companies are slotted into the schedule – and have until March, when the program descriptions are due, to come up with a show. There is also a Bring Your Own Venue option, where the company finds a suitable location, pays a reduced entry fee ($300), and negotiates with their “found” venue’s operators and Artistic Associate David Cheoros to ensure that everyone understands the unjuried and uncensored nature of the Fringe.
