Abstract

fetched live from OpenAlex

This chapter offers a detailed socio-legal history of attempts by the Jewish community in Québec to counter rising Nazi antisemitic publications through law. Montréal was the home to the largest Jewish community in Canada and the headquarters of the leading Nazi-sympathizing political organization in that country. The chapter studies the ways in which virulent antisemitism entered political discourse and the synergies with existing and deep-rooted theological anti-Judaism that exacerbated and influenced the power of Nazi Jew-hate. The failures of resistance through legislative reform and litigation suffered by the Jews of Québec are highlighted. The chapter examines how Jewish-self-defense was always limited by broader political concerns and highlights the ways in which this lack of local legal success led to attempts to concretize national and international resistance to the discernible rise in Nazi-inspired antisemitic propaganda.

Not calibrated prevalence, not ground truth. Human validation pending. The Gemma side is a direct model label for every work in the frame, read from the title-only record. The Codex side is a classifier learned from the 10,348 direct Codex labels and calibrated to design-weighted sample rates; fields without enough sample support carry no Codex call. Candidate is the union of the two sides; consensus is their intersection. These outputs are machine_predicted_unvalidated and are not human labels.

Machine scores (provisional)

The two teacher heads of the student model, read on this work. A score orders the frame for review; it never asserts a category, and the validation status ships verbatim with every row.

Baseline scores from an immature model (maturity gate not passed, 7 training rounds). Scores rank; they never assert a category.
