Abstract
In this chapter, the authors explore how they teach ecological sustainability through Puebla-Alberta Community Service Exchange (PACSE), a five-month, full-credit program that has evolved over the past 15 years. Their focus is on providing students with the opportunity to become part of, rather than observers of, rural communities. The sort of experience and community-based education often results in a disconnect between what students have learned as members of a prosperous society and what they see during their brief periods as members of rural communities that have been directly affected by the values of the dominant economic and political interests of society and motivates them to search for alternatives. While learners still have agency about how, if, and what they learn, the immersion model has significantly increased the likelihood that they will form meaningful relationships with the people and land in a rural community. A challenge in building capacity among new instructors is to communicate the nature of immersion learning.

Full frame distilled prediction
Teacher imitationNot calibrated prevalence, not ground truth. Human validation pending. Learned from the 10,348 direct Codex labels and 10,348 direct Gemma labels. Candidate is the union of thresholded teacher heads; consensus is their intersection. These outputs are machine_predicted_unvalidated and are not human labels or direct frontier model labels.

Machine scores (provisional)
The two teacher heads of the student model, read on this work. A score orders the frame for review; it never asserts a category, and the validation status ships verbatim with every row.
Baseline scores from an immature model (maturity gate not passed, 7 training rounds). Scores rank; they never assert a category.
score_only:v0-immature-baseline · verbatim from the scoring run: score_only means the number may rank works, and no category label ships from itClassification
machine, unvalidatedMachine predicted; a candidate call from one teacher head, not a consensus.
