AbstractIn the discussion on substance abuse alcohol is reported as one of the most commonly used substances. The public health perspective states alcohol is a major player not only leading to disability but also death and disease. The article aims to provide an insight into the overall understanding of the effect of alcohol consumption on the peoples’ lives in India. It also describes the burden of alcohol consumption and its consequences. This article is based on secondary data, the secondary data are collected from different source such NFHS, published research papers and reports.
