Peran Ruang Terbuka Hijau pada wilayah perkotaan sangat penting untuk mengurangi kejenuhan masyarakat perkotaan. Selain fungsi ekologis, ruang terbuka hijau juga penting bagi masyarakat untuk melakukan interaksi sosial budaya, estetika dan ekonomi. Oleh karena itu pemerintah menetapkan dengan undang-undang bahwa setiap kota harus menyisihkan 30% dari luasnya untuk Ruang Terbuka Hijau (RTH) dalam rencana daerahnya. Mojokerto mengalami perubahan fungsi dari tahun ke tahun seperti lahan pertanian yang berubah peruntukannya menjadi pemukiman, bangunan dan kawasan industri serta menjadi jalan. Untuk mencegah terjadinya perubahan lahan yang tidak terkendali dan kurangnya perhatian terhadap RTH di masa yang akan datang, maka perlu dilakukan analisis kebutuhan lahan pada kawasan Ruang Terbuka Hijau (RTH) di wilayah Mojokerto.
