Abstract
Les questions liées à l’industrie figurent en bonne place parmi les savoirs transmis par l’école tout au long des xixe et xxe siècles. Le textile n’y échappe pas, et ses représentations ont généré une importante iconographie, proportionnelle au poids économique de ce secteur. En témoignent quantité d’images destinées à servir de support à l’enseignement de disciplines variées, dont l’histoire et la géographie. Rarement prises en compte, situées en dehors des enjeux strictement artistiques ou publicitaires, ces représentations échappent aux typologies bien identifiées par l’histoire de l’art et l’histoire des techniques. Leur intérêt est toutefois majeur pour saisir les enjeux de représentation et de promotion de ce secteur économique : à travers elles transparaît en effet la manière dont l’institution présente un type d’industrie aux futurs citoyens.
