Abstract
José de Cañizares (1676-1750) fue considerado desde el siglo XIX el último representante de un teatro barroco en decadencia. En los últimos cincuenta años se han ido superando esos prejuicios, sin embargo, su trayectoria como libretista y autor de letras para cantar ha quedado en un segundo plano respecto a su faceta de comediógrafo. Por tal motivo, este trabajo tiene como propósito mostrar evidencias sobre su importancia como libretista para la música en el ámbito hispánico de la primera mitad del siglo XVIII. Además, esta investigación aporta nuevos datos sobre su vida.
