Abstract
Si l’image d’anticipation paraît traditionnellement dévolue à la représentation du futur, il n’en reste pas moins qu’elle est le lieu d’une construction autrement plus complexe du rapport au temps. Les représentations futuristes sont bien souvent mises en perspective et à la manière d’un palimpseste, l’image fait signe, aussi bien en direction du passé, que du présent et de l’avenir, aidant à formaliser un régime d’historicité. Il s’agira ici de distinguer des stratégies iconographiques qui président à l’expression du temps en contexte anticipatoire. Certaines de ces stratégies jouent résolument avec le passé et en appellent aux compétences du lecteur/spectateur et aux liens multiples que la représentation entretient avec sa mémoire et sa culture visuelle ; d’autres cherchent à penser le temps dans un rapport entre formes symboliques et formes mimétiques ; d’autres encore reposent sur des formes dynamiques d’extrapolation et d’invention plastique qui donnent à entrevoir – sinon à voir, les possibles de l’avenir.
