А н н о т а ц и я : рецензируемая книга представляет собой критическое исследование истории формирования систе мы описания антропологических коллекций смитсоновского института, от книг поступлений и карточных каталогов до электронных баз данных.каждая глава посвящена конкретной информационной технологии: полевой список, книга поступлений, карточный каталог, компьютерная база данных, современные цифровые данные.Автор показывает, что это вовсе не нейтральные бюрократические технологии учета коллекций, а хранилища застывших структур колони ального знания, которые до сих пор служат воспроизводству колониальных иерархий.на фоне институциональной истории отдела антропологии смитсоновского института и в контексте идущих в сША процессов репатриации пред метов детально реконструируется траектория этнографического предмета от заказа собирателю в поле до строчки в электронной таблице.описывая материальные инфраструктуры и повседневные рутины производства знания в музее, автор выявляет два основных вектора напряжения, характерных для любого этнографического музея.Это напряжение между стандартизацией музейного формуляра и изменчивостью информации о предметах и между ис следователями и «техническими специалистами», т.е.между наукой и учетом.исследование будет полезно не только сотрудникам этнографических музеев, но и историкам науки и исследователям медиа.к л ю ч е в ы е с л о в а : музей, критические исследования медиа, этнография, колониализм.
