Abstract
Cet article entend analyser les modalités de représentation du temps profond dans les œuvres de Jules Verne et Rosny Aîné. Il s’agit d’abord de comprendre comment s’élabore un patron narratif appuyé sur le discours de la vulgarisation, assise permettant au roman de projeter, tant vers le passé que vers le futur, une vision plausible de l’évolution du temps. En liant anticipation et rétrospection, nous entendons inscrire les visions du futur présentes chez Rosny Aîné et Jules Verne, particulièrement lorsqu’elles mettent en scène une catastrophe, une fin de l’histoire humaine, dans une représentation plus large du déroulement du temps, auquel le récit parvient ainsi à donner forme et sens.
