Abstract
Recognized for its childlike simplicity, the swing -as Javier Moscoso showsboasts an emotionally complex history that stretches as far back as the hieroglyphs of ancient Egypt. He argues that vestibular states tied to the arousal of the neuro-sensory system have shaped the arc of feeling historically defining the experience of swinging.A dizzying and repetitive mixture of height and suspension, vertigo and disorientation, oscillation, undulation, pushing, falling, hanging and swaying emanate from a body in motion as it shifts back and forth, high and low, through air, space and time. These feeling states have contributed to the development of the modern swing and implicated this most seemingly innocent of children's play structures in a knotty nexus of sex and death, pleasure and pain, restraint and freedom.Influenced by the work of William Reddy, Moscoso ties the act of swinging to escapism from societal and 'emotional norms' .Power is internalised by the subject who is liberated from 'social asphyxiation' through the affective mechanics of swinging -as if the self were a winged bird flying untethered through the air (17).The book is 264 pages and includes 28 color plates and 40 halftones, the majority of which visually operate to help the reader rethink the innocence of the swing and steer it away from its immersion in the playfulness of youthful memories to a broader unearthing of its adult history.Throughout the pages of this fascinating study, the swing is revealed to have had many uses, functions and symbolic resonances across different epochs and cultures. At once implemented as an instrument of female sexual arousal and embedded in fertility rites propelling the harvest, birth and life, the swing simultaneously retains a darker connection to the gallows and other instruments of torture.Moscoso frequently returns to the idea of a swaying or wavering body -the image of which brings to mind the terrifying vision of an inert corpse hanging by a noose or rope.Goya's nude paintings of haggardly witches as they fly suspended in air with broomsticks between their legs -lifted upward by the wind -evoke the paradoxical feelings of lightness, sensuality, thrill, degradation, fear, decay and trepidation that have imbued the swing with a mixture of attractive and repulsive qualities. While the swing arrived in the public parks of Europe in the nineteenth century, it had long been present as a playful artefact or toy used to satisfy the sexual impulses and drives of women, in particular.A highlight of Moscoso's study is its transcultural attentiveness, as well as its focus on gender and cross-cultural female experience.Swinging is rendered a specifically female pastime that

Teacher imitationNot calibrated prevalence, not ground truth. Human validation pending. Learned from the 10,348 direct Codex labels and 10,348 direct Gemma labels. Candidate is the union of thresholded teacher heads; consensus is their intersection. These outputs are machine_predicted_unvalidated and are not human labels or direct frontier model labels.

Machine scores (provisional)
The two teacher heads of the student model, read on this work. A score orders the frame for review; it never asserts a category, and the validation status ships verbatim with every row.
Baseline scores from an immature model (maturity gate not passed, 7 training rounds). Scores rank; they never assert a category.
