Abstract
Le courage qu’il faut aux rivières d’Emmanuelle Favier, publié en 2017, met en scène un amour entre deux femmes masculines dans une relation qui semble inintelligible, où l’une performe le genre pour se soustraire au mariage et l’autre est contrainte par le père à être un homme. La sexualité est présente tout au long de leur parcours, indissociable de leur quête identitaire vers la reconnaissance. Elle est par moments positive, moyen et espace de (re)prise de possession de soi, par le regard érotique, l’onanisme qui rappelle au corps les organes féminins ou encore la relation sexuelle réparatrice. À d’autres instants, elle est négative, manifestation de la répression patriarcale devant un système hétéronormatif bafoué, notamment par le viol. Pour autant, au travers du récit, la sexualité permet une affirmation de soi vers une transidentité.
