Les travaux sur la typologie des oasis à palmiers dattiers sont nombreux. Ils permettent de décrire une situation, de dresser un état des lieux et de classer les différentes palmeraies qui composent l’oasis. Des critères structurels et fonctionnels sont considérés tels que la disponibilité des moyens de production qui orientent les stratégies des producteurs. Plusieurs approches sont adoptées : bioclimatique à l’origine de systèmes d’irrigation caractéristiques, historique qui distingue les palmeraies selon leur âge et des méthodes récentes, dites multidimensionnelles qui croisent plusieurs critères à la fois. Dans notre proposition d’article, nous avons souhaité apporter un nouvel élément : l’objectivation de la typologie de telle sorte à pouvoir participer à la prise de décision. L’élément déclencheur de notre démarche est l’attribution des aides agricoles qui s’opèrent de façon inéquitable entre les anciennes palmeraies et les palmeraies dites modernes. Une grille de classification est proposée dans un but de reconsidération de ces espaces marginalisés. Pour rappel ces « anciens » espaces sont à l’origine de la présence de l’homme dans des endroits hyperarides.
