Abstract
O presente trabalho tem por objetivo refletir sobre a importânciada autonomia do professor enquanto qualidade do fazer docente.Analisar o que pensam os professores sobre o desenvolvimento da própriaautonomia constitui um poderoso instrumento para o desvelamentoe a ressignificação do trabalho que desenvolvem. Trata-se de recorte deuma investigação já concluída, de natureza qualitativa do tipo estudo decaso, tendo como sujeitos professoras de uma escola da Educação Básicada cidade de Feira de Santana. Neste texto, inicialmente, discute-secomo ocorreu a investigação, o processo de coleta de dados e o contextoda pesquisa. Em seguida, a autonomia é tratada à luz de teóricos efazendo interface com os dados empíricos. Ao desvelar como os docentespercebem a autonomia do trabalho que exercem, a pesquisa permitecompreender as implicações, não apenas no contexto da sala de aula,mas, também, no âmbito institucional e social.
