Abstract
This volume is important for its comprehensive treatment of Ellis' lifework.It shows his impact on the varieties of Christian liberation theology and the struggles involved in Jewish criticism of Zionism and advocacy for Palestinians.Since the authors involved in the volume largely agree with Ellis, the reader may underestimate how controversial his reputation is.At the close of his interview, Ellis announces paradoxically that 'The New Diaspora, named and unnamed, is a future already arrived' (p.25).Although an exile of conscience, Ellis' Jewish liberation theology has sought to embrace other exiles from other religious and social locations and draw those who seek justice together.
