Abstract
Paulette Nardal est une personnalité martiniquaise longtemps ignorée. Ce sont les travaux de chercheuses américaines au cours de la première décennie des années 2000 qui ont permis de mettre en lumière son rôle dans l’émergence du mouvement de la négritude et ses activités féministes. Son parcours a été récemment (re)valorisé en France dans le contexte principalement d’écrits sur l’intersectionnalité. L’auteure montre qu’il reste encore à explorer dans le combat de Paulette Nardal pour l’émancipation des femmes noires en général, martiniquaises en particulier, et ses rapports aux employées de maison. Peu étudiés, ces textes amènent à replacer Paulette Nardal à la Martinique, où elle a vécu la majeure partie de sa vie. Ils ne sont pas sans poser de questions sur son regard de femme appartenant à la petite bourgeoisie noire et sur une approche de la domesticité qui semble viser davantage une amélioration de cette condition qu’une sortie.
