This article examines the activities and achievements of the first Russian professional artist of the 19 th century.Anton Mikhailovich Legashev in China through a portrait of a Chinese official painted by him, stored at the Royal Ontario Museum in Canada.On the one hand, A.M. Legashev tried to realize breakthroughs in self-realization and artistic creativity through the paintings he created during his stay in China, at the same time he served the tsarist government and carried out a political mission to explore China.A.M. Legashev's surviving paintings played an important role in visualizing the construction of cultural exchanges between China and Russia.
