Le peuple Pataxó habitait la région qui est aujourd’hui le sud de la Bahia bien avant l’arrivée des Portugais. Entre autres territoires, ils occupent toujours le district de Cumuruxatiba, dans la municipalité de Prado, où se situe la Terre indigène de Comexatiba. Ce territoire ancestral est actuellement le théâtre de disputes entre les fermiers et les indigènes pour la propriété de la terre. Au milieu du conflit, les Pataxó mènent leur vie quotidienne du mieux qu’ils peuvent. La communauté s’est organisée pour écrire et parler en son propre nom. Elle dénonce les attaques qu’elle subit, elle s’expose aussi et présente sa culture.
