It is the day after.The previous evening, nine and a half years of Conservative rule under Stephen Harper came crashing to an end.Justin Trudeau and the Liberals stopped the Conservatives in their tracks with their decisive majority in the federal election.Now Trudeau is in Ottawa for a victory rally at the Westin Hotel.The hotel sits next door to the conference centre where, in the summer of 2011, Harper boldly told his supporters that Canada would not simply "go along to get along" in the world.Trudeau has already had a busy day after waking up as the prime minister designate of Canada.It started in Montreal, where he posed for a round of selfies at a subway stop.Now he is in the capital, in front of a boisterous room full of supporters.His voice remains hoarse, as it has been in recent frenzied days, but it delivers a firm message aimed outside these hotel walls, this city, and this province, and outside Canada."To this country's friends, all around the world, " Trudeau says."Many of you have worried that Canada has lost its compassionate and constructive voice in the world over the past ten years."Well, I have a simple message for you.On behalf of thirty-five million Canadians, we're back."A new search for Canada's international role had begun -the second one in less than a decade.Their respective foreign policies differed sharply, but Harper and Trudeau arrived at them the same way, by adhering to their opposing beliefs as they drove full tilt towards the same point on the horizon: domestic political power.
