in biochemical genetics who helped establish community screening programs for genetic diseases, has passed away.Early in his esteemed career, Dr. Scriver brought amino acid chromatography from London to North America, opening the door to new discoveries about metabolic disorders.This native of Montreal, Quebec, Canada, also veered into public health when he championed the cause of adding vitamin D to milk to prevent rickets in Quebec.After becoming Editor of The Metabolic and Molecular Bases of Inherited Disease (McGraw-Hill, 2001), Dr. Scriver brought metabolism into genetics and established the field of biochemical genetics.
