Selon Paulo Freire (1971), la conscientisation est un processus d’apprentissage collectif visant à faire émerger chez les individus une réflexion critique à travers une praxis. Basée sur la pédagogie et la conscientisation des opprimé·es, la philosophie freirienne de l’action peut aider à mettre en lumière le potentiel de conscientisation du jeu et à déterminer les critères qui définissent un jeu de conscientisation. Cet article vise ainsi à répondre à cette question en développant un modèle pour définir des jeux à visée de conscientisation à partir de dix critères inspirés de la philosophie de Freire. Pour ce faire, dans un premier temps, un bref retour historique sur les racines philosophiques et politiques de la conscientisation chez Freire permettra de soulever certaines caractéristiques propres à une conscience critique. Par la suite, des études sur les jeux à visée de conscientisation seront présentées afin de colliger des éléments structurants de ce type de jeux. Ce travail permettra ensuite de proposer une définition basée sur dix critères qui circonscrivent les jeux à visée de conscientisation. Puis, ce modèle sera appliqué à trois exemples de jeux afin de démontrer son opérationnalité. Finalement, l'article se conclura en démontrant la cohérence de l’articulation entre la philosophie freirienne et les jeux à visée de conscientisation, particulièrement dans un contexte de cocréation de jeux tel qu’un game jam.
