Abstract
À partir d’un questionnement sur le rôle des traductions dans un pays périphérique et de l’étude de revues telles que le Boletim Geográfico et GEOgraphia, nous constatons que les traductions sont devenues une pratique régulière (encore qu’inconsciente) chez les géographes brésiliens dès la fondation des premiers cours universitaires dans les années 1930, et ce, jusqu’à nos jours. Notre étude porte sur les traductions en langue portugaise des écrits du géographe français Paul Vidal de la Blache qui ont circulé au Brésil entre 1943 et 2020. D’une part, sur le plan méthodologique, les translations studies s’avèrent utiles pour montrer comment les traductions peuvent enrichir notre compréhension des sciences humaines. D’autre part, en revoyant comment Vidal de la Blache et les classiques en géographie ont été considérés par l’historiographie de la géographie, nous en arrivons à la conclusion que les traductions ont joué un rôle fondamental dans les processus de « canonisation » (1943-1999) et de « décanonisation » (1999-2020) de Vidal de la Blache, au Brésil.
