Abstract
La découverte de la grotte de Lascaux en 1940, et les analyses scientifiques auxquelles elle a donné lieu, ont provoqué beaucoup d’échos chez les poètes, les peintres et les écrivains. Les artistes reprennent la notion développée par le préhistorien André Leroi-Gourhan de « paroi participante ». Les peintres, en particulier, interprètent la caverne comme un corps créateur d’images. Leur travail s’appuie sur des relevés des œuvres paléolithiques et des photographies des parois des grottes. Ces dernières inspirent également les textes poétiques. Les échanges de René Char avec Christian Zervos qui dirige la revue Cahiers d’art, puis avec Georges Bataille, débouchent en particulier sur quatre poèmes. Ceux-ci sont analysés comme une transposition poétique, redevable pour son contenu sémantique à la pensée de Bataille et, pour son organisation graphique, aux peintres de la préhistoire.
