Abstract
The author attempts a reflection of the Asian American experience in the United States, tracing the struggles and triumphs of Asian Americans, and noting the general characteristics of those who come from mainland China. She reflects on her experience living in China, characterized by switching her identity as a majority and a minority, as a privileged person as well as a disadvantaged person because of changes of context. She recalls her experience in the United States and Canada, from being a stranger to finding a community of friends, from dismissing her own culture, to reclaiming her own heritage. In particular, she shares her transformation from seeing herself as an Asian woman to regarding herself as a global citizen, her path to realizing the commonality as human beings and the power of respect and love to build cultural bridges.
