Abstract
Formasi Sinjin merupakan salah satu formasi yang terdapat pada Sub Cekungan Berau yang mempunyai potensi keterdapatan batubara. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi keberadaan batubara pada Formasi Sinjin dengan menggunakan metode pemetaan geologi, pemboran dan analisa kualitatif batubara. Pada pemetaan geologi dijumpai 6 singkapan batubara dengan ketebalan berkisar 0,08 hingga ± 1 meter, dan 8 singkapan non batubara, yaitu batulempung, batupasir dan batugamping. Kualitas batubara pada Formasi Sinjin ditunjukan oleh nilai rerata Kelembaban Air Total (Total Moisture) 48,3 %, Air Terperangkap (Inherent Moisture) 16,3 %, Kandungan Abu (Ash Content) 5,9 %, Zat Terbang (Volatile Matter) 39,8 %, Karbon Padat (Fixed Carbon) 38,1 %, Kandungan Sulfur (Total Sulphur) 0,06 %, dan nilai kalori (Calorific Value) 5236 Kcal/kg (adb).
