Abstract
This book is published within the historical context created by the entry into force in Canada of Bill C-4 on January 7, 2022.The legislation bans conversion practices and has been hailed around the world as indicative of growing awareness of the heinous nature of these human rights violations and the irreparable and profound damage that they cause on their victims.Indeed, practices of conversion perpetrated against trans and other gender diverse persons are the source of extreme sufering.That these practices creep within the deep grooves cut in societies around the world by pathologizing views of gender diversity is, however, only part of the explanation for their cruelty: they are part of patterns followed by States and other entities that perpetuate violence and discrimination and defend rancid social structures, such as patriarchy, upon which is built most of the injustice in the world.This work of Florence Ashley is crafed at the intersection of the ethical, political, and legal narratives that exist within and around this existential battle.Meticulously deconstructing layer afer layer, they place conversion practices under the lens of their analytical scrutiny and bring clarity to a debate that is most ofen waged on the basis of only prejudice, and in which the very lives of trans and other gender diverse
