Abstract
I read and reread Bois-Brûlés with passion. This ethnohistorical study sheds a dazzling light on my ancestors, the Métis of the Gatineau Valley. It allowed me to recognize myself as never before and to understand with greater clarity where I come from and who I am.Through the words, I saw once again the beautiful landscapes of my childhood.I vividly recalled times spent on the shores of the majestic Outaouais, Gatineau, and Lièvre rivers, and at the Cabonga reservoir near Grand-Lac Victoria. This rich telling reminded me of the exceptional men, women, and children I knew then. They were larger than life and forever dwell in my memory. In Bois-Brûlés, I recognize the names of my family -grandparents, uncles, auntsand friends.I discovered facts and locales that give comfort to my identity.Bois-Brûlés is in many ways my biography, and the characters who inhabit this work are central to my lived past, my family tree, and that of hundreds of inhabitants of the Gatineau Valley.I am privileged to have existed for close to three-quarters of a century. In my childhood, I lived in tents and log cabins; I knew the life of traplines, dog teams, feasts of moose, beaver, and pike, and evenings passed in drumming.I also witnessed the devastation brought by the clear-cuts of lumberjacks.I observed the yellow tractors ripping the stomach of the red earth, the stripped logs despoiling the white waters of rivers.I saw my people impoverished, cowed, and I watch them rise today, breaking their silence, emerging from their clandestinity. The pride and the strength of my people grows and I hear their voices rise up anew.My father, like all men of the forest, cultivated a love of the woods and respect for animals.Like those who belonged to preceding generations, he had a poetic gift as he transformed the smallest facts, the most fortuitous encounters, the most banal incidents into epic narratives. He let him self be carried away by words as a boat, its sails inflated by the wind, carries its cargo along.I was his most diligent listener and I burned into my memory

Full frame machine prediction
Teacher imitationNot calibrated prevalence, not ground truth. Human validation pending. The Gemma side is a direct model label for every work in the frame, read from the title-only record. The Codex side is a classifier learned from the 10,348 direct Codex labels and calibrated to design-weighted sample rates; fields without enough sample support carry no Codex call. Candidate is the union of the two sides; consensus is their intersection. These outputs are machine_predicted_unvalidated and are not human labels.

Machine scores (provisional)
The two teacher heads of the student model, read on this work. A score orders the frame for review; it never asserts a category, and the validation status ships verbatim with every row.
Baseline scores from an immature model (maturity gate not passed, 7 training rounds). Scores rank; they never assert a category.
score_only:v0-immature-baseline · verbatim from the scoring run: score_only means the number may rank works, and no category label ships from itClassification
machine, unvalidatedMachine predicted; a candidate call from one source (direct Gemma or distilled Codex), not a consensus.
