Abstract
Cet article entend présenter une « lecture » du Rapport Massey, en s’intéressant tout particulièrement au renversement opéré du paradigme matériel et territorial (lié aux ressources naturelles) vers le paradigme culturel et intangible (lié aux arts et aux idées) dans la définition de l’identité canadienne. L’hypothèse poursuivie est que le rapport s’érige depuis une « nature en creux », qu’il s’agit de traduire en culture. La lecture s’appuie alors sur un cadre théorique inspiré de la pensée du critique André Belleau, adapté du contexte québécois vers le contexte canadien.
