O presente texto é uma introdução crítica da peça O Mayouri (1988) de Élie Stéphenson. O texto faz um panorama sobre a literatura guianense situando o autor e sua produção literária, em particular, seus textos dramáticos. Em seguida, é exposto um quadro linguístico da região, bem como é pormenorizado como esse contexto bilíngue aparece na peça de teatro. Por fim, há algumas reflexões sobre o crioulo guianense e como ele foi transcrito da forma oral para a forma escrita na edição em livro de 1988 da obra O Mayouri.Palavras-chaves: O Mayouri, Élie Stéphenson, Teatro guianense.
