Abstract
Depuis quelques années, le traitement des animaux et les choix alimentaires des consommateurs retiennent de plus en plus l’attention du public québécois, et le véganisme réussit graduellement à s’imposer comme sujet d’actualité. Cet article offre une analyse exploratoire du mouvement végane au Québec. La première section est consacrée aux fondements idéologiques du véganisme, en particulier à l’apport philosophique de l’éthique animale et la difficile appartenance à la gauche généralement revendiquée par les militants véganes. La deuxième section, quant à elle, est davantage sociologique et propose un portrait préliminaire du mouvement végane au Québec. Nous y soulignons notamment le caractère récent de cette cause politique, laquelle s’est essentiellement déployée dans le courant de la dernière décennie, et offrons un court résumé de ses spécificités locales. Nous concluons notre analyse en abordant la difficile politisation du véganisme au Québec.
