Abstract
O campo da Análise do Discurso (AD) estabelece como objeto de estudos a produção de efeitos de sentido atribuída por sujeitos sociais que lançam mão da linguagem e produzem verdades. A comunicação audiovisual pode desenvolver uma relação profícua com a AD ao problematizar o papel dos discursos na produção das identidades sociais, pois a retórica do preconceito é uma das diversas maneiras de formação de consciências e identidades. Partindo dessas premissas, o presente artigo objetiva refletir sobre a representatividade de gays, travestis e pessoas trans em telenovelas brasileiras. Com base nessa reflexão, consideramos que a televisão tem contribuído para a discussão de questões que colaboram para a propagação de uma imagem que, em parte, se contrapõe aos valores de uma sociedade heteronormativa, transfóbica e homofóbica.
