Abstract
This book is part of the UBC Press Landmark Cases in Canadian Law series.The series is an avenue for publishing comprehensive booklength examinations of high court cases that have had a major and permanent impact on Canadian law, politics, and society and that have grappled with issues of public discussion and debate in Canada.The books investigate and explain the events that gave rise to the case, the working of the case through the courts, and the final decision and its after-effects.They are also written in a manner that appeals to both scholars and the interested public.My purpose in writing this book on the Guerin case is to satisfy these requirements.It is for the reader to say if I have succeeded.There is no doubt in my mind, however, that the case fully deserves to be included in the series as one that has had a major and permanent impact on Canadian law, politics, and society.
