The originals of Juliana Horatia Swing's Fredericton letters are the property of the Hunter Archaeological Society and are in the archives of the Sheffield Central Library, Sheffield, England (HAS 60).Our editorial policy is based on a desire to promote readability without sacrificing either scholarly accuracy or a sense of the ease and irregularity of informal correspondence.Because space limitations do not allow us to print more than three-quarters of the letters, our edition concentrates on what Mrs. Ewing has to say about Canada and about her activities as an author.Our deletions consist primarily of those letters and sections of letters in which Mrs.
