Abstract
Communica tion, Strategy, and Democracy featuring fifty-seven short contributions from sixty-six academics, students, and journalists.The publication was publicly available just three weeks after election day.Building on the success of that venture, UBC Press committed to produce a book that combines traditional academic formats with public engagement.In addition to rethinking its normal production process in order to fast-track publication -such as commissioning a book cover before the chapters were drafted -the Press boldly agreed to publish both a conventional peer-reviewed printed book and an open access publication.Aside from the obvious financial implications, this involved new ways of thinking about chapters to ensure that the content travels as stand-alone documents and identifying new ways to publicize them.The editors, participants, and ultimately readers are indebted to the willingness of UBC Press to support this venture, in particular Megan Brand,
