Abstract
The following article examines the 2021 controversy surrounding the OlympicCharter, specifically Charter Rule 50, and how it relates to Indigenousathletes. It cites various examples of Indigenous athletes who have representedAustralia and Canada at the Olympics, highlighting the ways inwhich they have tried to show their identity. It explains why showing tribalaffiliation is important for Indigenous athletes and communities. Finally,it argues that in the case of indigenous athletes, the ban on showing theiridentity is a manifestation of the ongoing oppression that colonized peoplesare subjected to.
