Abstract
Pacientes acometidos por dores orofaciais, incluindo as disfunções temporomandibulares (DTM), apresentam com frequência alterações significativas da qualidade de vida. Esse fato tem relevância clínica na medida em que as atividades de vida diária desses pacientes, que envolvam funções básicas como mastigar, falar, deglutir e até o convívio social podem ficar prejudicadas pela presença da dor. O objetivo deste estudo foi a aplicação dos Índices OHIP-14, Anamnésico de Fonseca e do questionário da Academia Americana de Dor Orofacial em pacientes adultos atendidos na rede pública de um município no interior do Estado de São Paulo - Brasil, a fim de observar a dimensão do impacto da dor orofacial e da disfunção temporomandibular na vida desses indivíduos. Os resultados mostraram a presença de DTM em 51,9% dos pacientes, sendo a de grau leve a mais prevalente. Os sintomas com maior prevalência foram as dores de cabeça, no pescoço e dentes e ruídos articulares na articulação temporomandibular. O impacto da saúde bucal na qualidade de vida de pacientes atendidos na rede pública foi baixo; no entanto, distúrbios psicológicos foram relatados com frequência, sugerindo a necessidade de um tratamento multidisciplinar.
