Cet article montre, à partir de la comparaison des essais d’écopoétique publiés en 2020 par Jean-Philippe Pierron et Pierre Vinclair, comment l’inscription de problématiques écologiques en littérature reconfigure certaines des distinctions traditionnelles de la théorie littéraire. S’ils partent d’une même critique du rationalisme instrumental et trouvent dans la tradition lyrique les moyens d’une résistance par l’écriture à la crise écologique que ce rationalisme aurait provoquée, les deux auteurs aboutissent à la mise en œuvre de deux poétiques diamétralement opposées (un lyrisme naïf capable de dire le sujet et ses appartenances chez Jean-Philippe Pierron, un lyrisme critique anti-propositionnel et conscient de ses moyens chez Pierre Vinclair). L’article fait pourtant l’hypothèse que la perspective écosophique dans laquelle s’inscrivent ces poétiques conduit à relativiser leur opposition et à ne pas les hiérarchiser. En effet, dans la mesure où toute écosophie se fonde sur une ontologie qui refuse de faire de l’homme un empire dans un empire, la littérature n’est plus pensable selon l’alternative de l’expression naturelle et de l’artifice conscient : elle devient une forme de vie, se constituant comme expérience et dans la continuité d’une expérience qui est d’abord celle d’un vivant.
