Abstract
outcome of a two-decade-long investigation into design flexibility in urban environments and housing.The second of these two decades, when I served as director of the A ffordable Homes Program at the McGill School of Architecture, has been devoted to theoretical and practical experimentation.The housing design studio that I teach has provided me with an opportunity to reflect on these ideas.I am grateful to the professors, urban planners, and architects who helped me guide and review these projects, and to the students who participated in them.
