(excerpt) The four species of the genus Stenamma recognized for the northeastern United States are all found in the two square miles of the Edwin S. George Reserve, Livingston County, Michigan. They are Stenamma diecki Emery, brevicorne (Mayr), impar Forel and schmitti Wheeler. These ants are not abundant on the George Reserve as they are in certain habitats further north. Near Montreal, Quebec all four are present and diecki, together with Lasius alienus Foerster and L. pallitarsis (hovancher), are the most abundant and widespread species of ants in the woods (Francoeur, 1966; Letendre and Pilon, 1972, 1973).
