Abstract
Le Canada semble prendre un nouveau tournant, très probablement décisif, dans la gestion de la diversité. Dans ce contexte, jusqu’à quel point peut-on dire qu’une nouvelle identité canadienne se crée progressivement ? Ce tournant modifie-t-il la conception initiale du multiculturalisme ? Ce dernier, clé de voûte de l’identité politico-économique du Canada, apparaît comme un outil gouvernemental permettant au pays de modeler un nouveau visage canadien au plan social également. Cette démarche aboutit à une nouvelle approche de l’identité, notamment des minorités culturelles mais aussi de la société dans son ensemble. Mais au-delà de la volonté gouvernementale, l’application de la loi, la conception de l’unité, l’acceptation de la diversité et ce que le gouvernement nomme la «citoyenneté multiculturelle » soulèvent encore de nombreuses questions sur le terrain.
