Abstract
Este artículo examina el concepto del multiplicador Keynesiano con el objetivo de proponer en que condiciones opera. La idea que se propones es que dentro de un periodo de producción, el multiplicador es necesariamente igual a la unidad. Sin embargo, su valor puede incrementarse en el curso de varios periodos de producción, dependiendo precisamente del papel del sistema bancario en la renovación y ampliación del crédito. Aunque este argumento no es original, había venido siendo ignorado en la discusión postkeynesiana. El propósito de este trabajo es recuperar estos argumentos dentro de la historia post-Keynesiana, en la medida en que ellos tienen importantes implicaciones de política y contribuyen a fortalecer un contexto teórico apropiado para la política fiscal. Se trata de un debate fundamental en las condiciones de la crisis actual y las políticas al alcance de los gobiernos para reactivar el crecimiento económico.
