Abstract
El presente ensayo busca discutir sobre la importancia de la investigación científica en el campo de las comunicaciones y la necesidad de que esta se promueva dentro del ámbito universitario. Si bien se reconoce el aporte de las comunicaciones a la sociedad y sus avances en los últimos años, se analiza la urgencia de que sean los mismos estudiantes de la especialidad quienes se encarguen de desarrollar la investigación, más allá de la elaboración de una tesis como requisito para la licenciatura. También se destaca el rol del docente en el trabajo de investigación científica de la mano con la producción de los alumnos. El debate pasa por una mirada a las dificultades investigativas presentadas en los últimos años y el planteamiento de una reflexión sobre las carencias de la investigación en las comunicaciones. Se concluye con el reconocimiento de la importancia de la investigación científica en la transmisión del saber y se plantean algunas recomendaciones para mejorar esta labor.
