Abstract
The interception of correspondence has been ongoing for centuries. On the one hand, the emergence of new modes of communication in the 19th century led to a considerable increase in the volume and distribution speed of correspondence, and to changes in the geographical dimension, on the other hand. Communication has always played a strategic role in the war. Intercepting communications, either to gain further information or to interrupt its route, is an act as old as war itself. Drones can act as interception tools or as interception targets, especially in a military context. The Echelon network was established by the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia and New Zealand to intercept communications from commercial satellites. Intelligence gathered from the interception of communications in all their forms plays a central role in the political and diplomatic life.
