Abstract
Davantage qu’un simple objet métonymique de l’obsession de Nelly Arcan pour le corps et les apparences, le miroir s’inscrit au coeur du deuxième livre de l’autrice, Folle, et en structure la narration. Le présent article propose une lecture narratologique du récit Folle afin d’examiner l’effet du miroir et de la duplication sur la temporalité. Trois moments clés du récit, la scène de l’avortement de la narratrice, l’incipit et l’excipit, opèrent comme des mises en abyme : ils condensent les plus grands thèmes et procédés du récit et se renvoient à l’infini le reflet d’images obsédantes, jusqu’à leur réduction progressive. Ce faisant, le récit, lancinant et circulaire, se réécrit sans cesse, jusqu’à l’anéantissement de l’intrigue amoureuse et l’abolition de la progression narrative.
