Self-Diplexing Implantable Antenna with Independently Controllable Bands

Abstract
In this paper, a self-diplexing implantable antenna is proposed for head implants. The proposed antenna operates at 915 MHz (Port 1 = ON) and 1420 MHz (Port 2 = ON) with independently controllable bands. This antenna is optimized by implanting it in a realistic human head model (implant depth = 4 mm). It maintains a compact size (7.13 mm × 8.9 mm × 0.13 mm) due to multiple slots and shorting pins. Moreover, an isolation level (31.4 dB) between both ports of the antenna is achieved using an ultra-thin substrate and a series of vias. It has a stable radiation pattern at both frequency bands and has good gains of -18.94 dBi (at 915 MHz) and -17.06 dBi (at 1420 MHz). Due to high isolation, good impedance matching, acceptable gains and independently controllable bands, this antenna is suitable for head implants.
