Abstract
Cet article explore les usages sociaux des TIC et leurs répercussions sur la qualité de vie des étudiant·e·s internationales et internationaux (ÉI) dans le contexte du confinement instauré au Québec en 2020 en réponse à la pandémie de COVID-19. Des entrevues semi-dirigées menées en ligne auprès de quarante ÉI ont permis de comprendre que les ÉI recourent aux médias sociaux à des fins de communication et de support de l’entourage et utilisent des applications à des fins multiples (informations, divertissement, achats, jeux). Les nouvelles plateformes de visioconférence ont joué un rôle significatif en permettant la participation à des activités en ligne et au maintien des relations avec la famille et les ami·e·s. Finalement, les TIC ont permis de supporter les conditions de confinement, mais elles ont aussi entrainé des répercussions sur la qualité de vie évaluées comme problématiques (augmentation du temps passé en ligne, dépendance, anxiété, fatigue).
